


In 2008, Daimler Buses achieved global sales of 40,600 buses and Mercedes-Benz, Setra and Orion chassis cabs. Its turnover was the highest in its history, selling 4% more vehicles than the previous record year (2007). A total of 1100 Sprinter-based Mercedes-Benz minibuses (+18%) were also sold in Europe in 2008.
With a 15% market share, Daimler Buses has succeeded in sustaining its leading market status worldwide as well as in core markets such as Germany, Turkey, Mexico and Latin America. The market share figures increased significantly in some countries. Hartmut Schick comments: "Our global position is outstanding. Our market share in some countries is more than 50%. Our strengths are the international status and global cooperation we have built up over several decades. This will not change in the future."

On the product side, Daimler Buses was successful again in 2008. The Setra S 415 NF low-floor bus was crowned Bus of the Year 2009. The Mercedes-Benz Travego is the first coach worldwide to be equipped with Active Brake Assist, which plays an active role in helping to prevent rear-end collisions. With around 1700 Orion VII hybrid buses in operation in metropolitan areas of North America, Daimler Buses is the global market leader for hybrid buses. Many models have been fully replaced worldwide. Hartmut Schick: "We place great emphasis on innovative products, premium quality, enhanced safety and first-class service.
