Daimler Buses has secured another major order – 300 Mercedes-Benz Citaro city buses – and will commence delivery to Singapore immediately. The vehicles have been purchased by Singapore transport company SBS Transit, which is responsible for the majority of public bus services in the metropolis of 5 million inhabitants. Over the past five years alone, SBS Transit has invested 850 million Singapore Dollars (over 470 million Euros) in renewing their bus fleet. All 300 Mercedes-Benz Citaro city buses comply with the Euro 5 emissions standard and are produced at the EvoBus plant in Mannheim. They will be deployed in the Singapore bus network.

With production figures of around 32,000 units in only twelve years, the Citaro is the most successful city bus ever built. With two sets of doors and a length of 12 metres, the Mercedes-Benz Citaro is designed around a low-floor concept that ensures easy boarding and exiting for older people and passengers with limited mobility – as well as allowing easy access via the wheelchair ramp. Every bus has been allocated 13 seats specifically for this passenger category. Powerful air-conditioning units in all vehicles are an essential requirement for the humid tropical climate typical of Singapore. The Citaro also features camera surveillance both in the passenger compartment and outside the vehicle. The economical, low-emission buses run with environmentally friendly Mercedes-Benz BlueTEC diesel technology in compliance with the Euro 5 exhaust emissions standard.
