Citaro buses with BlueTec technology

receive the environmental label Blue Angel

Blue Angel now also for Citaro urban buses with BlueTec®5
Stuttgart/Mannheim:
From 1 November 2007 the Mercedes‑Benz Citaro urban buses with the new diesel technology BlueTec®5 will bear the Blue Angel seal of quality.

The technical requirements for receiving the environmental label from the RAL e.V. and the German Ministry of the Environment involve fulfilling certain criteria such as engine exhaust figures which meet the Euro 5 or EEV (Enhanced Environmentally friendly Vehicles) standard, low interior and exterior noise emissions, no use of ozone-depleting substances, low global warming potential in the refrigerants and paintwork free of heavy metals and with less than 130 grams of solvent per square metre. This is ensured in Mercedes‑Benz buses with a single paint colour which can also be designed with a luminescent sheen.

Receiving the right to bear the "Blue Angel" seal involves several conditions. First of all the manufacturer must submit the label use agreement to the label issuer (RAL e.V., German Ministry of the Environment, German state of the production facility). The client must also observe the specified requirements for the vehicle over the entire period of its use.

The Blue Angel is a seal of testing and quality awarded since 1978 to products and services which are particularly beneficial to the environment. The environmental label was created in 1977 with the aim of recognising environmentally friendly developments and alternatives in areas where conventional products may be harmful to the environment. The environmental label is awarded to manufacturers, who can then voluntarily place the emblem on their products.

As early as 2002, Mercedes‑Benz Citaro natural gas buses were supplied upon request with the Blue Angel environmental label.
