| The official handover of 18 new Mercedes-Benz Citaro buses began a new city bus era in Saarbrücken. |
When the symbolic key was handed over to Prof. Dr,.Ing. Franz Heinrich, CEO of Saarbahn GmbH, by Tammo Voigt, Head of Mercedes-Benz Urban Public Transport Bus Sales, at the Saarbahn GmbH premises on 31.01.2007, in the presence of the Minister for Industry and Employment, Dr. Hanspeter Georgi, this signified a clear commitment to the new diesel technology by the capital city of Germany's smallest federal state.
"In procuring the new buses we are continuing to follow the aims of our transport company, which are to use the latest, innovative technology, reduce exhaust emissions and improve cost-effectiveness", Prof. Dr.-Ing. Franz Heinrich emphasised. Long before the legally prescribed limits of the EU exhaust emissions directive Euro 5 come into force in 2008/2009, the product unit Mercedes-Benz Buses & Coaches has equipped the 18 Citaro regular service city buses with Euro-5 turbodiesel engines. Thanks to BlueTec diesel technology based on SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction), it is already possible to meet the even more stringent Euro 5 emission limits without difficulty today, by installing an SCR catalytic converter with a larger surface area.

Franz Heinrich, CEO of Saarbahn GmbH, by Tammo Voigt, Head of Mercedes-Benz Urban Public Transport Bus Sales, the Minister for Industry and Employment, Dr. Hanspeter Georgi, also presented a letter of confirmation for a state subsidy covering the purchase of new diesel buses to Saarbahn GmbH. The new Citaro regular service buses already meet the Euro 5 standard required from 2009, and are therefore years ahead of their time. |
