UITP Congress 2007 in Helsinki

A landmark after just ten years: Citaro number 17500
Helsinki – Even its developers couldn’t have imagined it in their wildest dreams: that exactly ten years after the premiere of the Mercedes‑Benz Citaro urban public transit bus at the 1997 UITP Congress in Stuttgart, the Citaro would be celebrating a notable landmark at the 2007 UITP Congress in Helsinki. It was at this event that the company presented the Citaro with the serial number 17500. Continually updated and with the second generation on the market since a year ago, the ultra-modern Citaro remains the yardstick for buses in its area of operation, just as it was at the start.

The Citaro is breaking every record: last year 3000 units were produced for the first time. Citaro has been successfully cruising the streets of most European metropolises for several years now. Its stations include London, Paris, Madrid, Stockholm, Berlin, Rome, Bucharest and Istanbul. Citaro is also established in overseas markets such as Dubai, Israel and Mexico.

The varieties of the Mercedes‑Benz Citaro available are unsurpassed: the low-floor rigid bus with two or three axles, from 10.5 m to 15 m long; the low-floor articulated bus and inter-city bus; the low entry Citaro LE and the Mercedes‑Benz CapaCity, the large-capacity bus derived from Citaro, are a response to the issue of public transit in cities and surrounding areas. The design, comfort and engineering of the Citaro are groundbreaking, from the driver’s seat to the engine. Along with a host of other features, the Citaro has an especially comfortable and safe front axle with independent wheel suspension.
