Despite a length of 19.54 m, the Mercedes‑Benz CapaCity moves as easily through traffic as a conventional articulated bus measuring 18 m, thanks to its four axles (two of them articulated) and single articulation. The CapaCity’s turning circle of 22.85 m is exactly the same as that of the 17.94 m long three-axle articulated bus Citaro G. This makes turning curves with the new CapaCity just as manageable as with the tried and tested articulated bus Mercedes‑Benz Citaro G. This also applies to the width of the circumferential area. The rear swing-out measure of 0.42 m remains significantly under the permitted limit of 0.60 m, and by centring the trailing axle, this effect can be almost virtually eliminated. All in all the CapaCity is much more manoeuvrable in its handling than other currently available large-capacity bus concepts with double articulations or trailers.
The Mercedes‑Benz CapaCity brakes with the tried and tested Electronic Braking System (EBS) in conjunction with ABS and ASR. Disc brakes all round and independent front suspension are standard equipment.
The fact that the Mercedes‑Benz CapaCity manages with just a single articulation makes manoeuvring much less complicated and therefore safer. The driver can see the rear of the vehicle and the doors at all times. Unlike a bi-articulated bus or a trailer-type solution, the vehicle can also be reversed as easily as any articulated bus.
