 | | | Powerful and economical Euro 4 engine |
The tail end of the Mercedes‑Benz CapaCity is where the tried and tested horizontal in-line six-cylinder Mercedes‑Benz OM 457 hLA with twelve litres displacement does its work. The efficient and clean Euro 4 turbodiesel with BlueTec® diesel technology based on SCR technology drives the third axle. Thanks to an engine output of 260 kW (354 hp), the CapaCity achieves superior performance and traction which far exceed its rival concepts. The availability of new engines which are certified according to Euro 5 and EEV will be of utmost benefit to the CapaCity.
High transport capacity and attractiveness have until now been claims made primarily by rail transport systems. With the same basic conditions, such as preferential routes and stops meeting current requirements, modern bus systems can in many cases now keep apace with rail systems.
The CapaCity offers all the prerequisites necessary for successful transportation concepts: low life-cycle costs, high ride comfort and of course the corresponding design make bus systems not only economical but also attractive. The EEV standard ensures that emissions are hardly evident. The CapaCity’s high flexibility remains one of the largest advantages of bus-based transport systems: with or without track guidance, the bus can be used practically anywhere and also adjusts to changing flows in traffic without requiring a higher investment. In times of more limited financial resources, the CapaCity offers an opportunity for maintaining an attractive public local transport system. However, to make this possible, the subsidies between buses and trams must be divided fairly.
