 | | | The big new ambulance is stationed at fire and rescue station 5 (Filder) in Stuttgart-Degerloch. |
From there, the white vehicle – laminated with a luminous red foil, with large letters in reflecting blue foil saying “Baden-Württemberg Civil Protection” and, in reflecting white foil, “Rescue Service”, and with retroreflective contour markings on the sides and at the rear – is alerted to go on its often life-saving missions.
But for the Stuttgart Fire Brigade, what counts is not simply speed, but rather the quality of the medical care that can be provided to the victims of calamities. They are not concerned with performing emergency operations, but primarily the maintenance of vital functions, making people fit for transport and transporting as many as 15 emergency patients as gently as possible.
The best possible provisions have been made for this in the Citaro large-capacity ambulance: the chassis boasts acceleration skid control, air suspension featuring electronic level control and a kneeling function, and anti-roll bars on front and rear axle.
The rear window and the last side windows on either side have sheet metal panels instead of glass. In the middle of the bus there are mounting rails in the floor which serve to securely fix a hospital bed or a heavy-duty stretcher. |
