 | | | The electronic brake system (EBS) |
| The Tourismo is equipped all round with disc brakes which are controlled by an electropneumatic brake system (EBS). |
EBS allows the driver to modulate the braking effect with greater precision than is possible with conventional brake systems. The electronics ensure that the brake wear status is taken into account in the brake force distribution calculations. This leads to more consistent brake pad wear.
As a result, the brake pads last longer and their maintenance costs are reduced further. Another advantage of EBS is that the brakes respond more quickly and stopping distances are reduced accordingly.
Further electronic safety systems that line up alongside ABS and ASR in the Tourismo include Brake Assist (BA), an integral component of EBS. BA assists the driver in the event of an emergency stop. As soon as the system detects an emergency braking situation, it provides the full braking power within a fraction of a second, even if the driver has not yet depressed the brake pedal fully. This speeds up the response time and therefore shortens the braking and stopping distance. A vital boost to safety when you need it most! |
