For the sixth consecutive year the S-Class, now powered by the world’s cleanest diesel engine, has been awarded Best Luxury Car at the latest Auto Express New Car Awards.

The latest generation S-Class immediately cemented its position as one of the world’s best luxury saloons at launch, dominating UK sales in the luxury car segment with its unbeatable combination of class-leading and innovative technology, the highest levels of comfort, peerless style and superb efficiency. Little surprise then that it has been awarded the title of Auto Express’s Best Luxury Car every year since its UK arrival in 2006.

For over three decades the S-Class has set the benchmark against which all luxury saloons have been judged, and with its advanced BlueTEC technology, the current
S-Class features the world’s cleanest and most sophisticated diesel powertrain.

The S 350 BlueTEC was the first car to market that meets EU6 standards that don’t come into effect in the UK until 2014. Now fitted with ECO start/stop as standard that boosts economy by a further 10%, the S 350 BlueTEC returns 45.6 mpg on the combined cycle while CO2 emissions have been reduced by 7% to just 164 g/km, without any reduction in performance or refinement.

Developed by Mercedes-Benz, the BlueTEC system in the S-Class injects AdBlue®, an aqueous urea solution, into the exhaust flow. The resulting chemical reaction releases ammonia, which in turn converts up to 80% of nitrogen oxides into harmless nitrogen and water in the downstream SCR Selective Catalytic Reduction catalytic converter. The fully-integrated 25.7-litre AdBlue® tank is installed under the floor of the boot and the supply is replenished at regular maintenance intervals.
