Stay calm. You’re no help to yourself or others if you panic.
First things first:
- If possible, move your car to a safe place so that you’re not creating additional danger.
- Turn off your engine and turn on your hazard lights to warn other motorists.
- Never cross a carriageway.
- If you have reflective clothing, wear it to make yourself visible.
- Never smoke, in case there’s been a chemical or petrol spill.
- Disable the vehicles involved by turning off engines and applying handbrakes.
