The E-Class Estate offers a choice of two BlueEFFICIENCY-optimised 4-cylinder diesel engines, each providing outstanding fuel economy and low emissions. Both units incorporate twin turbochargers – a small charger to ensure there is zero turbo lag and a second, larger charger to deliver consistently high power output and torque.
The results are impressive, with the E 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY producing 170 hp (125 kW) and 400 Nm of torque. The manual version emits 150 g/km of CO2 and achieves up to 49.6 mpg combined, with Benefit in Kind from 21%.
The E 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY manual not only matches these fuel consumption and emissions figures but also produces an extra 34 hp (25 kW) and some 500 Nm of torque, powering the E-Class Estate from 0-62 mph in 7.8 seconds. Both 4-cylinder diesels offer 5-speed automatic transmission as an option.
A new generation V6 diesel engine is also available, the E 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, featuring improved CO2 emissions from 170 g/km and fuel consumption from 44.1 mpg. The engine also delivers increased 0 – 62 acceleration from 7.2 seconds to 6.7 seconds, whilst the torque and power have also increased by 15% to 620 Nm and 265 hp (195 kW) respectively.
Finally, the E 350 BlueTEC engine is introduced into the range, benefiting from Euro VI compliance and offering CO2 emissions from 190 g/km. The BlueTEC technology employs AdBlue, an odourless urea solution that is injected into the hot exhaust gases which significantly reduces emissions.
