At Mercedes-Benz we take the same innovative approach to environmental issues as we take to safety, design and driving dynamics. We have a dedicated Design for Environment team that takes a holistic view, ensuring that all our processes – from production to disposal – are as green as possible.
Our aim is to minimise our cars’ environmental impact throughout their lifecycle and we achieve this in various ways. For example, we make extensive use of recycled and recyclable materials in our vehicles – such as seat padding made from rubberised coconut fibres.
In addition, we’re gradually rolling out BlueEFFICIENCY vehicles across the range – including the E-Class Estate. Available on most models, BlueEFFICIENCY incorporates a range of measures to reduce emissions and improve fuel economy. These vary from smaller, more aerodynamic exterior mirrors to tyres that produce 17% less rolling resistance.
As a result the E-Class Estate’s fuel consumption has improved by up to 16% over the previous model. What’s more, all E-Class Estate models are EU5 compliant, with CO2 levels starting from 150 g/km and Benefit in Kind from 21% and the new E 350 BlueTEC engine already meets with EU6 standards.
