The S-Class is fitted with the versatile 7G-Tronic automatic transmission, which includes Direct Select, as standard (5-speed automatic transmission on the S 600 L and S 65 AMG). With seven forward ratios this system provides the optimum gear ratio for almost every driving condition by responding to small changes in engine speed.

The Direct Select gearshift – with steering wheel gearshift paddles and gear selector on the steering column – allow the driver to select gears with the minimum of fuss.

The S 600 L and S 65 AMG are fitted as standard with a 5-speed automatic transmission. It operates with electronic transmission management, which adjusts the transmission ratio to your driving situation. This allows a sporty driving style with reduced consumption. The gearshift buttons on the left and right behind the steering wheel can be used to shift up or down manually.
