 | | | A milestone for a cleaner environment |
Getting the maximum performance from every drop of diesel while also reducing environmental pollution - Mercedes‑Benz has taken on this challenge with its economical diesel engines and revolutionary BLUETEC diesel technology.
After BLUETEC was tried and tested in the bus and truck segments, the V6-cylinder E 320 BLUETEC made its world premiere when it was introduced in the US during Autumn 2006. With fuel consumption of 6.7 litres per 100 kilometres, corresponding to CO2 emission of 179 g/km, it already meets the EURO-5 standard for new vehicles, not due to take effect until 2009. This makes it the cleanest and most economical EURO-5 diesel passenger car worldwide in the business class.
BLUETEC was developed in two versions: the E 320 BLUETEC and E 300 BLUETEC have an oxidation catalytic converter, additive-free diesel particulate filter, NOx storage catalytic converter and the additional SCR catalytic converter with on-board ammonia generation and SCR catalytic converter (Selective Catalytic Reduction) combined and demonstrate exemplary figures for all emission components. In the second BLUETEC version, the special additive AdBlue converts up to 80 percent of nitrogen oxide into harmless nitrogen and water. A huge step forward for a clean environment.
BlueTec has already been a huge success in the US market, particularly considering the traditional unpopularity of diesel across the Atlantic. Mercedes-Benz will continue to develop this technology for a future European introduction, at present a date for UK launch has not been determined. |
