We have already achieved recognition for our work in minimising the ecological impact of our current products, with no less than four separate environmental certificates. The S-Class and C-Class Saloon were awarded with a certificate from the TÜV institute, followed by the A-Class and B-Class (which have also received similar Öko-trend certificates). These certificates focus on the entire lifecycle of a vehicle, from production to maintenance and eventual disposal.
To give an example of the improvements we are making, the new C-Class Saloon is able to demonstrate a 6% decrease in fuel consumption, and exhaust emissions which are 90% lower than the EuroIV limits for nitrogen oxides, and 86% lower for hydrocarbons. The use of recycled plastics has increased by 34%, and CO2 emissions have reduced by nine tons over the vehicle’s lifecycle. In fact, the energy requirements of the vehicle have decreased by 125 gigajoules, the equivalent of 3,800 litres of petrol. All in a package which is more luxurious and dynamic than ever before. |
