 | | Because obstacles can only be seen at the last moment when you are driving on an unlit road in the dark, Mercedes‑Benz has developed night view assist. Picked up by an infrared camera, a clear image of the road ahead is shown on the instrument cluster display.
Ideally positioned in your field of vision (where the speedometer display appears when night view assist is not in use), the image from the infrared camera allows you to experience night driving in a new light. You can see the road ahead of you as though you had main-beam headlamps on – but without dazzling oncoming traffic. The realistic greyscale image helps you to distinguish "warm" objects, such as people and animals, as well as "cold" obstacles, such as stones or lost load items, at an early stage and thus allows you to respond accordingly. Night view assist therefore makes a major contribution to enhancing your safety when driving at night.
