As the world’s oldest car manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz is proud to become an official patron of The Open Championship, the world’s oldest golf tournament. The exciting five year partnership begins with the much anticipated 2011 tournament at the Royal St George’s Golf Club in Sandwich, Kent, where the world’s elite golfers will once again do battle for the coveted Claret Jug.
Further expanding its commitment to golf at all levels, Mercedes-Benz is also delighted to announce the introduction of a new competition giving amateurs the chance to play at The Open Championship.
“We will link the MercedesTrophy, a worldwide premium amateur series, with The Open Championship,’ explained Anders Sundt Jensen, Vice President Brand Communications, Mercedes-Benz Cars. ‘The programme ‘Drive to the Major’, a global competition, will, for example, give players the chance to win the opportunity to qualify to play at the Monday Foursome.”
Rich in its own history, Mercedes-Benz is keen to help drive Britain’s premier golfing competition ever onwards, building on a sporting heritage that began in Scotland in 1860 and a motoring heritage that can be traced back to 1886.
