There are multiple factors that impact on how efficient a truck is at moving goods from A to B: choice and age of truck, gearing, driver style, vehicle speed, weather and road conditions, tyre choice and pressures, PTO, axle alignment, tractor and trailer aerodynamics, vehicle maintenance, fuel quality and route profile…among others. Even something as simple as roof-mounted lighting can increase fuel consumption by up to 1%, or under-inflated tyres similarly can soak up 4% more fuel. Trailers and semitrailers can account for 60% of the rolling resistance so it’s equally important that they are set up and maintained correctly. These factors, and more, are discussed in detail in our downloadable fuel efficiency guide – follow the link below to download your copy.
