Whilst huge strides in conventional diesel engines have been made, in order to reduce emissions still further alternative fuel technologies are being introduced. These are mainly targeted at specific high fuel use operations eg municipal waste collection with its low mileage stop-starting, or very high mileage distribution services.
In the municipal market Econic is now available powered by natural gas. This complies with the rigorous EEV (Enhanced Environmentally friendly Vehicle) standard and can deliver reductions of 14%* in fuel costs, 18%* in pollutant emissions, and is much quieter so ideal for early morning urban street collections. Potentially even greater “well to wheel” CO2 savings can be made where biogas is used.
Econic is also available as a dual fuel vehicle, using diesel and natural gas, a technology developed in conjunction with Hardstaff. Again aimed at high fuel consumption operators this technology is also available on selected Axor and Actros models.
