| | 1886 Benz Patent Motor Car |
First high-speed single-cylinder four-stroke engine. The Benz Patent Motor Car was not a converted carriage but an independent, integral design.
In January 1886, Karl Benz received Patentschrift No. 37435 for a tricycle powered by an ‘invisible’ source of energy. The patent is now considered the birth certificate of the automobile, and the tricycle itself heralded a world-wide revolution in transport.
From the first automobile patent to the first car, Mercedes-Benz has been at the forefront of transport since the beginning |
