The first Mercedes car

The first real car

The first real car
The first car to be named and branded Mercedes was the 1901 35 hp. It was developed by Wilhelm Maybach. With its low centre of gravity, pressed-steel frame, light high-performance engine and honeycomb radiator, it featured numerous innovations and is regarded today as the first modern automobile.

The name ‘Mercedes’ officially became a trademark on 26 September 1902 after it had been registered on 23 June.
