The new 2-bag air suspension

Following on from the stabiliser link – which revolutionised air suspension when the Actros was first unveiled – the new air sprung tractors mark the introduction of yet another innovation: 2-bag air suspension. This new suspension concept not only reduces the weight by around 30 kg and the frame height by 30 mm, it also offers a whole host of further benefits. In the absence of the rear bags, the shock absorbers can be located behind the axle, thereby substantially enhancing both driving dynamics and stability. In addition, the advantageous arrangement of the bags allows much greater lift heights as well as preventing twisting of the axle, which causes changes in the propshaft angle. Furthermore, the reduced number of bags means less time is needed to replace them, thus saving you hard cash on your repair bills.
