| The challenge was to increase flexibility to give more options for mounting larger fuel tanks. And the result is impressive to say the least: the real innovation behind this new concept for air sprung Actros tractors lies in the almost completely open area on the left-hand side of the chassis. To make this possible, the batteries and air tanks were integrated in the area between the rear axle and the rear crossmember. In addition, the air dryer, 4-circuit protection valve and trailer control valve were moved inside the frame. The resultant free "mounting area" can be used to add an extra fuel tank, for example, thereby increasing the capacity to up to 1500 ltr on 3.9m 4x2 tractors or 1300 ltr on 3.6m 4x2 vehicles. This design also makes it much easier to mount hydraulic pumps or compressors. The integral rear is fitted as standard on 6x2 tractors and tractors fitted with the Megaspace cab. It is available as an option for all other 4x2 tractors.
