As effective as ever

Axle load compensation

Axle load compensation is a feature of the front axles on four-axle vehicles. Whenever an obstacle is traversed, a fraction of the weight on the axle carrying more load is borne by the axle carrying less load. The difference in height can be up to 100 mm. Although this sounds complicated in theory, it simply means the following in practice: reduced roll, less wear on the axle suspension, steering and tyres and, finally, substantially enhanced ride comfort.
