The ideal frame

Strong and full of holes

The Atego frame was specially designed with distribution work in mind. Principal features include its two-piece construction. The front part is made of two downwards-sloping longitudinal members with a Z-profile, thus giving Atego trucks up to 10.5t and the 12t Atego a low, single-step cab entrance. This Z-shape also allows more room for attaching components. It goes without saying that the frame is also extremely strong: no reinforcements or extra frames are required for the addition of a tail lift (with a load-bearing capacity of 1.5t).

In addition the frame is an object lesson in rust avoidance: a 50mm hole pattern is drilled before applying the cathodic dip coating, thus providing outstanding protection against corrosion. This hole pattern means that no further drilling is necessary when mounting bodies and other units. Bodies can therefore be preassembled and fitted in next to no time, which leads to a double saving: the time the vehicle has to be off the road at the body builder is reduced, and damage to the corrosion protection system is avoided. All of which makes for a long truck service life.
