To minimise stopping distances, the Atego's full air brake system features internally ventilated discs all round and ABS as standard. Not to mention a constant-pressure system operating at 10 bar. The brakes respond faster, leaving more valuable time for the actual braking process. Even after the brakes are used repeatedly in quick succession, there is no fade or delayed response. An engine brake and constantly open throttle valve are available as standard for vehicles weighing 9.5t and above or as an option extras on other models.
Even faster: the optional Telligent® brake system shortens the stopping distance considerably. Since the brake commands are sent in the form of electronic signals, the full braking power is available almost immediately. By simply measuring the speed with which the brake pedal is depressed, Brake Assist can detect a hazardous situation and apply the maximum braking force instantly.
The integrated brake wear equalisation function distributes the braking force to each wheel to prevent uneven brake wear. This system is economically beneficial, since changing all the brake pads or discs & pads at the same time involves less downtime than replacing them individually.
The integrated Hill Hold – part of the optional Telligent® brake system – prevents the Atego from rolling backwards or forwards unintentionally on a hill. The Telligent® brake system even makes pulling away easier as the optional ASR traction control system prevents wheel spin. |
