The Telligent® braking system that can be ordered as an option for the Axor comprises the dual-circuit braking system with an operating pressure of 10 bar, disc brakes all round, ABS, ASR, plus the engine brake. This can be supplemented by the optional additional brakes in the form of the retarder or the Turbobrake (for models from 260 kW/354 hp upwards). The system relays each brake signal with lightning speed, far quicker than any mechanical system would ever be able to. Apart from this, it allows brake power to be metered as sensitively as in a passenger car.
The integral Brake Assist recognises a critical situation immediately from the speed with which the brake pedal is applied, whereupon it responds instantaneously by checking the grip between the road surface and the tyre then deploying the maximum braking effect.
The integral additional braking function is a particularly economical feature. Every time the service brake is applied, a portion of the braking effect is automatically drawn from the engine brake (decompression brake valve and exhaust brake valve) and, if fitted, from the Turbobrake or retarder. In this way, brake pad wear is kept to a minimum. The only exception to this method is an emergency stop.
The Telligent® braking system is furthermore capable of automatically distributing the braking force between the tractor and semi-trailer as effectively as possible, in accordance with the current vehicle load. Meanwhile, the brake-pad-wear equalisation included with the Telligent® braking system ensures that the brake pads on each axle wear at an equal rate so that they can be replaced simultaneously. |
