Precisely matching the gearbox's ratio to the engine's power is the key to effective power transmission. In view of this, a number of gearbox variants are available for the Axor.
The 9-speed direct–drive transmission (G131-9) couples 8 forwards gears and 1 crawler gear with a hydraulic-pneumatic shift. The gearshift has a light action, while the finely tuned gearbox ratios permit precision low-speed manoeuvring with the crawler or reverse gears engaged. The gearbox offers a weight-saving of up to 30 kg compared to conventional designs, and is fitted as standard on Axor Tractors and Rigids from 210-kW (286-hp).
From 265 kW (360 hp) upwards, engines can be combined with an optional 16-speed overdrive gearbox with mechanical/pneumatic gearshift that is designed for highly economical driving.
On trucks fitted with the Telligent® gearshift (available for Axor models from 210 kW/286 hp upwards), precise gearshifts that also minimise gear tooth and synchro wear are the task of a 16-speed direct-drive gearbox.
