New heat protection systems

for Mercedes-Benz Unimog range

The extreme terrain Mercedes-Benz Unimog U3000 to U5000 range is now available with an extra protection system that allows the vehicle to continue operating even in the most hazardous fire environments.

Vital components and operations can be protected by a series of panels, packaging and casing, with the emphasis on protecting the driver and passengers, as well as the vehicle. The new protection system enhances the Unimog’s ability to cross the most difficult terrain, and now means it is able to play an increased role in such incidents as forest and moorland fires, and disaster control.

The system works by relocating some items, such as the compressed air brake components and battery box, and adding special protective casing for brake, air and fuel lines as well as electrical cabling. Mechanical protection against heat is achieved by installing paneling around the diesel tank, AdBlue tank and the catalytic converter, and protecting the air drier.

“The Unimog has an unrivalled reputation for travelling and working in the most inhospitable conditions and across the most difficult terrain,” says Mercedes-Benz Unimog UK Director Mark Hopkins. “This new heat and mechanical protection system enhances its ability to operate right at the heart of a fire – protecting the lives of firefighters as well as allowing them to protect the public and property.”
