Gosport's Challenger Lighting Services is looking forward to an even brighter future after taking delivery of two new Mercedes-Benz Vito vans.
The company installs and maintains retail and commercial lighting systems throughout the UK and Western Europe, and is gradually switching its 22-strong van fleet to vehicles bearing the three-pointed star.
It now runs a dozen Mercedes Vitos and larger Sprinters, all of which were supplied by local dealer Pentagon Commercials.
Challenger Lighting Services' latest vans are 2.7-tonne Vito 111CDIs, both of which have Long bodies and high roofs. They have lined up alongside two similarly specified Vitos acquired last year. The company also runs eight Medium-bodied, high-roofed 3.5-tonne Sprinter 311CDIs, the first of which arrived in 2006.
Challenger Lighting Services was established in 2000 and is based at Ordnance Business Park, on Aerodrome Road. It employs 50 people, including a team of engineers, each of whom can clock up as many as 75,000 miles a year, travelling throughout the UK as well as down to Italy and Spain.
"It was these high mileages that persuaded us to switch to Mercedes-Benz," explains Finance Administrator Sue Stimpson. "No other manufacturer could offer the degree of reliability we were looking for, backed by the reassurance of a three-year, unlimited mileage warranty."
Challenger Lighting Services' Sprinters and Vitos are fitted with shelving and storage compartments by its own engineers.
"They are delighted with their Mercedes," says Sue. "The vans are comfortable and easy to drive, and are standing up well to the punishment they get in day-to-day use."
Challenger Lighting is equally pleased with the service from Pentagon Commercials. "We have nothing but praise for the dealer," adds Sue. "Its 24-hour service operation is particularly invaluable - it means we can get our vans serviced overnight and back on the road again next morning, so they're always available when we need them."
