 | Mercedes-Benz came up with the right tool for the job when a north-west firm decided to update its van fleet.
PSL Tool and Plant Hire has bought nine new Mercedes Sprinters from Liverpool dealer Road Range Commercials and is already planning to order more.
The latest additions to PSL’s 20-strong fleet comprise seven Medium length 209CDI panel vans and two 311CDI chassis cabs with dropside body by Ken Rosebury, of Rochdale.
PSL, the region’s largest independent tool hire company, was so impressed with the performance and operating costs of its first two Long-bodied Sprinter 311CDIs, which went on the road in 2006, that it determined to switch its entire fleet to the three-pointed star.
Marketing Director Sheila Dennis explains: “Our first two Mercedes have proved more reliable than our other vehicles, as well as offering better security and longer service intervals.”
The Sprinters are also a big hit with the company’s drivers, who spend up to eight hours a day delivering to customers from the firm’s branches in Blackburn, Bolton, Liverpool, Manchester, Preston, Rochdale, and Wigan.
“The drivers love them,” adds Mrs Dennis. “The ride is fantastic and the cabs are well fitted out and very comfortable. The safety features are also second to none, which is very important to us because we are very conscious of our Duty of Care obligations to staff.”
PSL has been in business for 23 years and offers a comprehensive portfolio of tools and plant equipment for short and long-term hire, ranging from a saw to a four-wheel drive compact dumper truck.
The company has a reputation for first-class service and demands no less from its suppliers. “The Mercedes-Benz experience has been a real pleasure,” confirms Mrs Dennis. “Road Range have been excellent to deal with and have met promised delivery dates.”
Like all new Mercedes Sprinters, PSL’s vans came with a Mercedes-Benz Service Package. Under this, all labour costs, materials and lubricants required in routine servicing at Mercedes-Benz workshops will be covered for five years or 60,000 miles, whichever is reached first.
Launched last year, the new-generation Mercedes-Benz Sprinter combines dynamic good looks, ‘bullet-proof’ build quality, comprehensive specification and ingenious technology. The range cost £1.25 billion (1.8 billion euro) and took a team of 400 design engineers five years to develop. The result is a triumph, a vehicle that sets new standards in terms of productivity, refinement and safety.
Highlights include best-in-class side-loading door widths, outstanding ergonomics and comfort, a powerful and clean CDI diesel engine line-up topped by a storming 184hp 3.0-litre V6, and an advanced new version of the remarkable ESP® anti-skid system called Adaptive ESP®. |
