 | A company that produces a range of mouth-watering desserts for customers including Chatsworth House has splashed out on a tasty treat for itself – two new refrigerated Mercedes-Benz vans.
Cotgrave-based Sweet Surrender Ltd has taken delivery of a Short-bodied Sprinter 209CDI and a Vito 109CDI Long from Nottingham dealer Mertrux.
Both replace other vans bearing the famous three-pointed star – a Sprinter that has clocked-up 205,000 trouble-free miles and a Vito that has done 125,000.
“We bought our first Sprinter from Mertrux in 2001 and the Vito the following year,” says General Manager Simon Rawstron. “Both have been fantastically reliable and given us terrific service over the years.”
Sweet Surrender was established 22 years ago by Managing Director Catherine Howe, who started out by making puddings with her mother in the family kitchen. Voted Nottinghamshire Business Woman of the Year in 2005, she now employs nine people, supplying a range of hand-made patisserie to hotels, conference centres, golf courses and farm shops, including the one at Chatsworth.
Still very much hands on, Catherine continues to play an active role in adding to the company’s range of ‘deliciously decadent desserts’, which includes hand-baked strawberry shortcake with fresh cream and succulent strawberries, tart au citron with fresh cream and lemon, and Belgian chocolate tart with a rich, dark chocolate mousse.
Sweet Surrender is using its new Mercedes vans to deliver to customers within a 50-miles radius of its manufacturing unit on the Manvers Business Park. Coldstart, of Nottingham, insulated the bodies and fitted refrigeration units to both vehicles, which were signwritten by A R Signs, of Cotgrave.
Adds Mr Rawstron: “We liked our previous vehicles so much that when we came to replace them we could see no reason to look elsewhere. There’s a lot of prestige associated with the Mercedes-Benz brand, and you don’t get that from other manufacturers’ products.”
Sweet Surrender’s new vans boast smooth, clean common-rail diesel engines and bristle with class-leading safety features, including an advanced new version of the remarkable ESP® anti-skid system called Adaptive ESP®. A class-leading three-year, unlimited mileage warranty also comes as standard.
The larger Sprinter also came with a free Mercedes-Benz Service Package. Under this, all labour costs, materials and lubricants required in routine servicing will be covered for five years or 60,000 miles, whichever is reached first. Sweet Surrender chose a similar service package as an optional extra on the Vito. |
