The Plough sows seeds of success

with Vito Traveliner

A top restaurant is ensuring that its guests arrive in comfort and style, with a little help from Mercedes-Benz.

The Plough Wavendon, near Milton Keynes, opened in July and aims to win a coveted Michelin star for the quality of its food inside just 18 months.

It is now using a chauffeur-driven Mercedes Vito 109CDI Traveliner minibus to collect and return diners living up to 10 miles away.

The Long-bodied nine-seater was supplied by local dealer Intercounty Truck and Van and is the subject of a three-year contract hire deal with Exclusive Vehicle Contracts, of Ampthill, Bedfordshire.

As head chef Grant Hawthorne explains, a luxurious vehicle bearing the famous three-pointed star was the obvious choice for The Plough Wavendon when it launched its complimentary five-star service.

“The Traveliner’s understated elegance matches our ethos at The Plough, where the emphasis is on fine dining,” says Grant, who has cooked for the likes of Nelson Mandela and champion golfer Ernie Els, and runs the business day-to-day.

The Plough Wavendon is the brainchild of local businessmen Jonathan Todd and Howard Bridgeman, who have transformed the 16th Century former coaching inn and old bake house into an elegant restaurant, with garden courtyard for al fresco dining. The cuisine is described as “European with Mediterranean influences”.

The Plough Wavendon has won a loyal clientele so quickly that its owners decided to lay on transport for guests. The smart metallic silver Vito Traveliner boasts alloy wheels, tinted privacy glass, fully-automatic air conditioning, leatherette upholstery and special Comfort seats throughout.

“It’s the perfect blend of comfort, style and safety,” says Grant, “and is proving very popular, particularly at the weekends. As the festive season approaches we’re expecting the demand to increase even more.”

The Vito is the “baby” of the Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle range and comes with a market-leading, unlimited mileage, three-year warranty. Comfortable and car-like to drive, with electric windows, remote central locking with “comfort” closing and a radio-CD player as standard, it bristles with class-leading safety features, including the remarkable Adaptive ESP® anti-skid program and ABS anti-lock brakes.
Safety is not an option! Adaptive ESP® fitted as standard across the range
