Vito powers tool firm into the future

A Bury St Edmunds company supplying top quality power tools and accessories throughout the country has teamed up with Mercedes-Benz to drive its business forward.

TTS Tooltechnic Systems GB, which distributes the Festool range of products, is planning to replace its entire fleet of 15 vans with vehicles bearing the famous three-pointed star.

The company recently ordered nine stunning Compact-bodied Mercedes Vito Dualiners - eight 115CDI Sports and a top-of-the-range Sport-X - from Newmarket dealer Orwell Truck & Van.

Four of the Sport models, which are being allocated to TTS Tooltechnic Systems' regional sales managers, have just arrived; so, too, has the Sport-X, which is being used by UK Sales Manager Ole Held.

"We have been running vans by another German manufacturer and I thought Mercedes would be more expensive," says Mr Held, who is based at the company's headquarters on Saxham Business Park.

"But I was pleasantly surprised to discover that for a similar price we could have much nicer vehicles that embody all of the style, quality and reliability you'd expect from Mercedes-Benz."

TTS Tooltechnic Systems now expects to order more Vito Sport Dualiners over the next 18 months.

With a luxurious cab and generous load area, the Mercedes Vito Sport represents the perfect 'work and play' combination for today's busy professionals, especially in Dualiner trim with a second row of seats.

Power comes from a punchy 150hp, 2.2-litre, common-rail turbo-diesel engine, while the vehicle's extensive specification includes luxury touches like cruise control air-conditioning, a leather steering wheel and gearshift, and electric windows and mirrors, as well as 17-inch alloy wheels with low profile tyres, fog lights, metallic paints and extensive chrome trim.

The Sport-X Dualiner, meanwhile, rewrites the rule book for sporting high performance in a van. Its turbo-charged 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission and pumps out an eye-watering 204hp. That's sufficient to rocket this very special van from 0-60mph in just 8.3 seconds and on to a maximum speed of 122mph.

It's also a real head-turner, thanks in no small measure to Brabus. The renowned tuning and body styling specialist, whose products are usually to be found adorning high-end sports cars, has pitched in with its dynamic 18-inch Monoblock-S alloy wheels and an aggressively deep front spoiler with integrated foglamps.

Adding to its eye-catching style, the model also features a chrome front grille and chrome steel side bars with integrated steps, colour-coded bumpers and side trims, roof rails and 'Sport-X' badges on the driver and front passenger doors, along with Brabus badges on the side, rear and front spoiler.

"Our sales team cover high mileages each week and need to transport a sizeable stock of demonstration tools and accessories to customers' premises for demonstration, product training and trade days," explains Mr Held.

"We are delighted with the load-carrying capacity, comfort and style of the Vito Sport and I'm certainly pleased with my Sport-X. It handles very well and feels stable and safe on the road. I have two young children so I also like the fact that it's very easy to get their prams and other paraphernalia in and out."

Mr Held first saw a Vito Sport at last year's Interbuild Show at the NEC, in Birmingham, chatted to a Mercedes-Benz sales executive and was contacted by Orwell Truck & Van two days later.

"As a sales professional myself, I have appreciated the quality of service we've received from the dealer," he adds. "Its representative outlined our options in a straightforward way and has been very helpful throughout."
