 | The Mercedes Sprinter confirmed its position at the head of the van pack by fighting off all comers to win the industry’s most coveted award – for the second year running!
The Mercedes-Benz van team celebrated as the Sprinter ran away with top honours at the UK’s most prestigious annual commercial vehicle awards ceremony ‘The Motor Transport Awards’.
More than 1,400 leading industry figures gathered at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London to witness the Sprinter being crowned “Fleet Van of the year 2008”.
The Mercedes was singled out from the crowd and awarded extra marks for its advanced levels of standard-fit safety features. Judges were also impressed with innovative developments such as ECO-Start – which saves fuel in stop-start traffic conditions by automatically cutting the engine while the vehicle is stationary – and the high level of support from the Mercedes-Benz dealer network.
Several members of the Mercedes Van team were in attendance to see Ian Jones, Managing Director of Commercial Vehicles for Mercedes-Benz UK, step up to collect the Award, which was sponsored by GlobalLive Fleet Monitoring Solutions.
Steve Bridge, Mercedes-Benz Van Sales & Marketing Director, declared: “Winning this award for a second consecutive year is a clear indication that the Sprinter meets the exacting demands of a challenging market.
“We set out to supply the operator with a quality product, supported by unrivalled levels of service, and this competition, judged as it is by a panel of top people from all sides of the industry, helps us to gauge our success.
“What makes this victory even sweeter is the fact that in the six years of Motor Transport awarding a ‘Fleet Van of the Year’ title, the Sprinter has now won it four times. That’s a true indication that our van team are getting it right.”
The Motor Transport Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of the industry and recognise innovation, outstanding service, efficiency and quality. They are judged by an independent panel of experts from many industry avenues, who are chosen because they know the difference between “what is common in the industry and what is truly outstanding” and deserves to be rewarded.
Each category is judged by its own panel, normally comprising four people selected from the industry for their expertise. A representative of Motor Transport chairs the meeting but does not vote unless there is a tie. |
