Having provided a vehicle recovery service to drivers in distress across South Yorkshire for more than two decades, The Rescue Group knows all about what makes a reliable vehicle – so it’s no surprise that the latest additions to its own fleet wear the three-pointed star of Mercedes-Benz.
The company, which is based in Parkway Avenue, Sheffield, is now running two new Mercedes Sprinter 311CDI Dualiner vans, which have joined a mixed fleet of 45 recovery units.
Supplied by city dealer Northside Truck & Van, the Sprinters are its first Mercedes and provide a perfect solution for patrolmen, who can either repair or tow away vehicles.
Both vehicles have air-conditioned cabs and, as Dualiner models, second rows of seats which are used to transport motorists, who might otherwise remain stranded, in comfort. The Sprinter also bristles with safety features more commonly associated with luxury cars, including the ground-breaking ESP® stability program and ABS anti-lock braking.
The Rescue Group works for the likes of the AA, RAC and Green Flag, and has racked out a section of each van as a mini-workshop for its mobile mechanics. A rapid deployment trailer for towing vehicles is stowed inside the rear doors.
“Our vehicles are out on the road 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so they have to demonstrate a range of qualities, but particularly dependability for our patrolmen, and comfort for our clients, some of whom will inevitably be quite stressed,” says Managing Director Graham Kidger.
“We are well aware of the Mercedes-Benz marque’s reputation for reliability and having road-tested a Sprinter myself, I have no doubt that this vehicle will more than match the high standards we demand of our fleet.”
He adds: “Our patrolmen are impressed with the Sprinters’ performance and build quality. They know they can get to any job with a minimum of fuss, while the stricken motorist can relax in the safe and secure environment of the vans’ interior as they are being taken home.”
