100th Sprinter delivers sweet Dreams

Directors at Britain’s leading bed specialist, Dreams, can sleep easy at night, knowing their market-leading delivery pledge is safely entrusted to the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.

Dreams has just taken delivery of its 100th Sprinter, a long-wheelbase 311CDI with a Luton box body, which was supplied by Aldershot dealer Rossetts Commercials.

Dreams began buying the multi-award-winning, 3.5-tonne Mercedes van model in the mid-1990s and uses its fleet to service its rapidly expanding network of more than 150 stores across the UK.

Founded in 1985 by Chief Executive Mike Clare, with a single store in Uxbridge, Middlesex, Dreams prides itself on a flexible, six days-per-week, delivery operation that means it can even supply a bed to a customer’s home on the same day an order is placed!

Mike Clare says: “Dreams has remained loyal to Mercedes Benz, and more specifically the Sprinter, for many years. A top calibre van bearing the Mercedes-Benz brand, we feel it perfectly complements expectations of the Dreams delivery service, from the knowledgeable sales staff through to the top quality products.”

The Dreams fleet includes two vehicles first registered in 1997. One is based at the company’s Crawley home delivery depot and has clocked-up 329,000 trouble-free miles; the other runs out of Enfield and has covered 281,000 miles.

“We work our Mercedes very hard, often in gruelling, stop-start traffic conditions, and experience has proved that they last the pace,” confirms Supply Chain Director Peter Hillman.

“The older vehicles have now been relegated to ‘reserve’ roles but nearly a decade on they still look smart and they’re still very reliable, so I know that at peak times I can still rely on them to do the job.”

The latest Sprinter’s Luton box is the work of Essex Bodies. The vehicle has two single seats, rather than the more conventional driver’s seat and two-passenger ‘bench’ configuration, giving extra room and comfort for Dreams’ two-man crews who typically make up to 15 ‘drops’ per day.

“The Sprinter’s three-year, unlimited mileage warranty is a major attraction, as are the Mercedes-Benz repair and maintenance contracts that we sign up to,” continues Mr Hillman – as with its predecessors, the 100th van is the subject of a four-year, 180,000-mile, deal.

“These are competitively priced and the work is undertaken by the Mercedes dealers local to the eight home delivery depots we operate across England and Wales. We also receive first-class support from Rossetts Commercials, who manage the bodybuilding process on our behalf.”
