 | Seventeen years after it last bought a vehicle from S and B Commercials, a Hemel Hempstead-based kitchen appliance distributor has come full circle by returning to the same dealer for its latest vans.
DBD Distribution, which supplies and fits kitchen appliances for major property developers, has bought four Mercedes vans from S and B’s Hatfield dealership.
DBD runs more than 30 vehicles and prior to the arrival of its new Mercedes the majority were Ford. The latest additions to its fleet – three high-roofed Sprinter 311CDI Medium vans and a Vito 111CDI Long – replace older units that are being stood down.
Explaining the decision to return to a dealer from which it last bought a van (a Volkswagen) in 1990, DBD Financial Director Bob Barnard says: “The Mercedes brand has an excellent reputation and the new Sprinter is the perfect vehicle for transporting fridge-freezers, hobs and other appliances.
“We thought it might be too expensive but in fact it compared very favourably price-wise to vans by other manufacturers.
“S and B Commercials have been fantastic,” he continues. “They lent us a demonstration vehicle, which we liked. In fact, our drivers and engineers were so taken with the Sprinter that they all want one now!”
The Sprinters are being driven by DBD Distribution’s delivery and engineer teams, while the more compact Vito has been allocated to the firm’s customer care engineer. The company has equipped its new Mercedes with ‘Bluetooth’ mobile phones.
DBD Distribution was founded in 1989 and is today the major contract appliance specialist in the South East.
The firm supplies and installs top brand kitchen appliances at sites throughout the Midlands and the South for major housebuilders such as George Wimpey and Taylor Woodrow.
Launched last summer, the new Mercedes Sprinter combines dynamic good looks, ‘bullet-proof’ build quality, comprehensive specification and ingenious technology. The range includes best-in-class side-loading door widths, outstanding ergonomics and comfort, a powerful and clean CDI diesel engine line-up topped by a storming 184hp 3.0-litre V6, and an advanced new version of the remarkable ESP® anti-skid system called Adaptive ESP®. |
