Mercedes charges ahead for Stewart & Young

West London electrical retailer Stewart and Young has switched on to the power of the new-generation Mercedes Sprinter.

The firm, which delivers leading brand ‘white goods’ such as fridges and washing machines to homes and businesses across Greater London, has recharged its van fleet with a new Mercedes Sprinter 315CDI.

Stewart and Young serves both domestic and commercial customers from its showroom in Hampton Hill, Middlesex. It is part of the Euronics group, a buying consortium for independent electrical retailers.

The new Sprinter was supplied by Cardiff Mercedes-Benz dealer Euro Commercials, the ‘preferred supplier’ of vans to Euronics members, who collectively own 1,500 shops and run 7,000 vehicles across the UK.

Harvey Young, proprietor of Stewart and Young, reveals that this is the first time the company has turned to the Mercedes marque – but is positive it was the right choice.

“I’d heard many good reports about the Sprinter,” he says, “and Mercedes-Benz is considered to be the premium brand in commercial vehicles.”

The vehicle’s high-capacity Luton body, which features a tail-lift and rear roller shutter door, is the work of bodybuilder Cardiff Truck and Bus and has brought added efficiency to its distribution operation.

Mr Young explains: “Our previous delivery van had to make several ‘drops’ and then return to the depot. But this new vehicle can be loaded up and stay out on the road for the entire day.”

The new-generation Mercedes Sprinter was launched last summer. Combining dynamic good looks, ‘bullet-proof’ build quality, comprehensive specification and ingenious technology, the range cost £1.25 billion (1.8 billion euro) and took a team of 400 design engineers five years to develop. The result is a triumph, a vehicle that sets new standards in terms of productivity, refinement and safety.

Other highlights include outstanding ergonomics and comfort, a powerful and clean CDI diesel engine line-up topped by a storming 184hp 3.0-litre V6, and an advanced new version of the remarkable ESP® anti-skid system called Adaptive ESP®.
