New Sprinters deliver a security ‘first’

A security-conscious west London logistics specialist has become the first customer in Britain for a new range of high-tech vehicle security systems.

The unique alarm, locking, and tracking equipment is fitted to Express Logistics’ two new Mercedes Sprinter vans.

Developed by Stockport firm Maple Fleet Services, the state-of-the-art ‘IQ’ access control and locking security systems include cameras which can be viewed remotely via the internet.

They use 3G mobile phone technology to allow 24-hour access to the cameras and enable the firm to receive ‘live’ pictures from the vans while they are out on the road.

Express Logistics, which is based near Heathrow Airport, bought the high-roofed Sprinter 315CDI Extra Long vans from Mercedes-Benz dealer Rygor Commercials.

The new arrivals bring to 10 the number of Mercedes on the Express Logistics fleet. The company undertakes anything from ‘one-off’ emergency deliveries throughout Europe, to the operation of dedicated warehouse and transport systems. It has a number of ‘blue chip’ clients and also provides import and export, sea freight and third-party logistics services.

It places a heavy emphasis on safety and security, and its vehicles boast a number of special features including remote deadlock systems, panic buttons and GPS tracking.

Managing Director Mark Priestley says the camera technology fitted to Express Logistics’ latest Sprinters breaks new ground in vehicle security.

“Ours is a logistics company with a difference, leading the way in technology for vehicle security and safety products,” he explains. “We have been using Mercedes vans for seven years now. They are the best on the market in our view, and the after sales service we receive is second-to-none.”

Express Logistics has just placed an order with Rygor Commercials for four more Sprinters and plans to update its remaining vans later this year.

The new-generation Mercedes Sprinter was launched last summer. Combining dynamic good looks, ‘bullet-proof’ build quality, comprehensive specification and ingenious technology, the range cost £1.25 billion (1.8 billion euro) and took a team of 400 design engineers five years to develop. The result is a triumph, a vehicle that sets new standards in terms of productivity, refinement and safety.

Highlights of the range include best-in-class side-loading door widths, outstanding ergonomics and comfort, a powerful and clean CDI diesel engine line-up topped by a storming 184hp 3.0-litre V6, and an advanced new version of the remarkable ESP® anti-skid system called Adaptive ESP®.
