Gloucester Rugby Club has added an award-winning star performer to its team – in the shape of a new Mercedes Sprinter!
The eye-catching van, in metallic silver with striking graphics by local firm Signs Express, was supplied by Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle dealer Mudie-Bond as part of a two-year sponsorship deal
One of the stars of the Guinness Premiership, the club is using its Sprinter 211CDI as a kit van. It travels to training sessions and to away matches every week, loaded with specialised equipment.
On a typical match day it will carry tackle shields, an ice bath, drinks bottles and carriers, cool boxes, 16 rugby balls, towels, playing kit and warm-up shorts for 24 players, boots, studs, kicking tees, communications equipment for the coaching staff, first-aid equipment including a medical trunk, spinal board, defibrillator, oxygen tanks, splints and physiotherapy couches. Last but definitely not least it also carries a good stock of vital post-match protein and carbohydrate replacement shakes – as well as Jaffa Cakes and jelly babies!
Kit Man Tim Mitchell says: "This is by far the biggest vehicle we've had for transporting our gear and the extra space it offers really comes in handy. It swallows all of the equipment we need with ease and is comfortable to drive. It's very solidly built too, just like our players!"
Mudie-Bond Managing Director Richard Bond, a lifelong Gloucester supporter, adds: "Gloucester Rugby Club is probably the biggest name in sport in this part of the world and we're very proud to be associated with such a successful team."
Richard recently celebrated his 60th birthday - and received a framed Gloucester shirt, signed by all of the club's first team stars, as a surprise gift from Mudie-Bond staff. |
