Jungheinrich reaches new heights

with Mercedes-Benz vans

Premier fork-lift truck manufacturer Jungheinrich UK is getting a lift of its own, from a new fleet of Mercedes-Benz vans.

By the end of this year the German-owned firm will have taken delivery of 62 vehicles from Wellingborough dealer Intercounty Truck and Van.

Jungheinrich, which has its UK headquarters in Milton Keynes, employs a network of specialist engineers who maintain its fork-lifts and other materials handling equipment operating in warehouses and other facilities throughout Britain.

Its new vans are detailed as mobile workshops and are racked out to carry tools and spares by Bott, of Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire.

Most are 2.7-tonne Vito 109CDI Long models, although Jungheinrich is also taking four high-roofed Sprinter 311CDI Mediums. The Vitos are used to service and repair electrically-powered fork-lifts; the Sprinters are for larger, diesel-engined trucks.

Jungheinrich runs a fleet of more than 300 commercial vehicles in the UK, the overwhelming majority of them vans. Its latest order means that by the end of 2007 well over half will be Mercedes; the remaining non-Mercedes vans will be replaced by vehicles wearing the three-pointed star over the next two years.

Jungheinrich Purchasing Manager Steve Clarke says quality and reliability are key attributes shared by the Vito and Sprinter, along with outstanding after sales support from the Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle dealer network.

“The 24-hour repair and maintenance service offered by Mercedes truck and van agents means we can get our vehicles serviced as and when we need, without incurring costly downtime,” he explains.

“Jungheinrich offers its own customers round-the-clock support, 365 days a year, and the fact that Mercedes-Benz is able to provide us with a comparable level of service is invaluable.”

Two years ago Jungheinrich’s parent company signed a pan-European, preferred supplier agreement with DaimlerChrysler Fleet Management Services which provides the firm with access to a competitively-priced, tailored contract hire package.
