 | Rhys Roberts is the fastest joiner in the business…thanks to the storming 184hp V6 engine that powers his stunning new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van.
The Conwy Valley-based craftsman knows a quality product when he sees one and had no hesitation in turning to the three-pointed star when he needed to replace his old work van.
The metallic silver Sprinter 218CDI Short was supplied by Llandudno Junction Mercedes-Benz dealer Road Range Commercials, and bristles with optional extras, including alloy wheels, leatherette upholstery, Parktronic parking sensors, an upgraded stereo, powerful Bi-xenon headlamps, fog lights and a smart chrome grille.
“It creates an excellent first impression when I turn up for a job in a vehicle like this,” explains Rhys, who has been self-employed since leaving college. “It’s has a lot of class, without being too showy.”
The 29-year-old had the Sprinter adapted to the needs of his business, with a ply-lined load compartment and custom-made roof-rack. He especially likes the flexibility of having loading doors on both sides of the vehicle and makes full use of the smooth, dynamic performance of the range-topping 3.0-litre engine – an unusual choice in a Short-bodied variant.
“I believe it’s one of only a handful in the UK,” he says. “I would have chosen the Medium body length, but the parking is very tight where I live and anything too big would be a problem.
“I wanted the V6 because I travel regularly to Shropshire to pick up timber and it’s nice to have a big powerplant. I’m very pleased with my new van, and love driving it outside work, too.”
Rhys says his Sprinter has also attracted a lot of interest among other tradesmen in Llandudno. “Everybody seems to like it,” he adds. “A few builders I know are very envious, but in their business I think they’d be afraid of scratching it.
“I can’t recommend Road Range and its sales executive Tim Baker highly enough.” |
