Darren's Vito Sport strikes a chord

Musician Darren Cumberland is certainly in tune with his new star performer – a gleaming black Mercedes Vito Sport van.

Ballymena-based Darren, who trades as Music DC, has several strings to his bow. As well as giving live keyboard performances, he puts on disco shows for wedding parties and other social functions. He also teaches piano, bodhran, guitar, violin and flute, as well as singing, speech and drama.

Darren’s work takes him all over Northern Ireland and he relied previously on his car to transport his equipment to performance and party venues.

“But as the equipment I use has grown bigger and more elaborate, the car could no longer cope, so I needed something bigger,” he says.

“At the same time, though, I wanted something that would look smart and stylish. I can’t arrive at wedding receptions or other formal functions in a vehicle that looks like a builder’s van.”

He continues: “I considered the Vito and a similar concept from another manufacturer – the Vito is much smarter and extremely well finished, and was also cheaper!”

Launched earlier this year, the Vito Sport is powered by a 150hp, 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine and comes loaded with luxury touches such as cruise control, air-conditioning, electric windows and mirrors and a leather steering wheel and gear shift.

Exterior features include 17-inch alloy wheels with low-profile tyres, metallic paint and extensive chrome trim, including side rails with integral steps. It is capable of a top speed of 113mph yet can still return well over 40 miles per gallon.
