Tyre firm treads a familiar path

to Mudie-Bond and Mercedes-Benz

What better way to celebrate your 25th anniversary than by treating yourself to a new Mercedes or three!

Tyre specialist Ski Tyres has just invested in a trio of Mercedes Sprinter vans.

The family-run mobile fitting and repair business, which has branches in Cheltenham, Gloucester, Tewkesbury, Hereford and recently Bridgend, Wales, started out in 1982 with just one Mercedes van and a pick-up.

Now its fleet has expanded to 25 vans – all Sprinters – one for each of its landmark silver jubilee years.

The latest three, all Sprinter 311CDI Medium models with high roofs, arrived via Gloucester dealer Mudie-Bond.

General Manager Edward Kusznierski, son of the company founder, hails the reliability provided by Mercedes vans to the company over the past quarter of a century.

”We buy Sprinters because they are the most reliable vans on the road and retain high residual values,” he says.

“We choose the high-roofed Sprinter because the extra height is very useful to us when we need to carry bigger tyres for earth movers and farm machinery.”

Edward, who now runs the business with his brother Oliver, adds: “We also receive excellent customer service and back-up both from sales executive Julia Hampton at Mudie-Bond, and from Mercedes-Benz.”

Ski Tyres has five workshops and covers a geographical area from Birmingham to Bristol and across to Swansea.

Its vans, which provide roadside assistance for all types of vehicle, are equipped with compressors and half-tonne cranes, as well as carrying spares and tools.

Edward continues: “We have to be ready to go out and fit a tyre on anything from a wheelbarrow to an earth mover. We’ve tried vans by all the other major manufacturers, but none could handle our 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week workload like a Mercedes can.”

The multi-award-winning new-generation Mercedes Sprinter was launched last year. Combining dynamic good looks, ‘bullet-proof’ build quality, comprehensive specification and ingenious technology, the range cost £1.25 billion (1.8 billion euro) and took a team of 400 design engineers five years to develop. The result is a triumph, a vehicle that sets new standards in terms of productivity, refinement and safety.

Highlights of the range include best-in-class side-loading door widths, outstanding ergonomics and comfort, a powerful and clean CDI diesel engine line-up topped by a storming 184hp 3.0-litre V6, and an advanced new version of the remarkable ESP® anti-skid system called Adaptive ESP®.
