Yorkshire’s Northside Truck and Van is the new Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle Dealer of the Year.
Northside beat off the challenge of 21 other franchised dealers nationwide to take the coveted award in recognition of its outstanding performance in both the sales and after sales arenas during 2006.
Dealer Principal Tim Ward collected the trophy from Wilfried Steffen, President and CEO of DaimlerChrysler UK; Ian Jones, Managing Director for Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles in the UK; and guest-of-honour, ITV Formula One pundit Tony Jardine.
The presentation event was staged last Thursday (February 22nd) at the stunning new ‘Mercedes-Benz World at Brooklands’ brand experience centre in Surrey.
The Northside contingent were already riding high when the evening’s main award was announced, because earlier two key members of the company team won individual prizes.
Leigh Margel was named Mercedes-Benz Van Sales Manager of the Year – a title he also won in 2002 – while Ben Sowersby carried off the Used Commercial Vehicle Sales Manager of the Year trophy.
A triumphant Tim Ward declared: “It was a fantastic night and to come away with three top awards, including ‘the big one’, in the face of such tough competition is unbelievable.
“Leigh and Ben richly deserve their individual recognition but this is really a team event and every member of staff has contributed to our success.”
Northside Truck and Van represents the famous three-pointed star in South and West Yorkshire. It employs 273 people at its headquarters in Bradford, and across its other dealerships in Doncaster, Leeds and Sheffield.
Northside’s latest triumph is all the more impressive given that it underwent a change of ownership as recently as the summer of 2005, when Lanarkshire-based SAH Ltd purchased the company in a deal worth more than £13 million.
Since then Northside has gone from strength-to-strength, introducing many new customers to the benefits of operating Mercedes trucks and vans, and investing heavily in its after sales service.
Most notably, Northside has just opened a purpose-built, £4.6-million dealership on a five-acre site in Balby Carr, Doncaster. This flagship facility boasts a showroom for seven vans, a comprehensively stocked parts department and a state-of-the-art workshop with 10 service bays, four of which are long enough to swallow a full-length articulated tractor and trailer combination. |
