A big-hearted quartet of Mercedes-Benz van salesmen put their best feet forward to raise hundreds of pounds for Cancer Research UK.
The contingent from Yorkshire’s recently-crowned Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle Dealer of the Year Northside Truck and Van, completed last Sunday’s (May 20th) Sheffield Half Marathon.
Team organiser Julian Graham, who works at Northside’s Leeds dealership, says: “We have a colleague who is currently suffering from cancer and wanted to do something for him.
“I also lost my dad to skin cancer four years ago and now, because it has a genetic component, I have the disease myself; I’m fine, but the doctors are keeping an eye on it.”
Julian was joined on the run by Nicky Walsh, a colleague from Leeds; by Glynn Staley, who works at Sheffield; and by Ryan Strafford, who is based at Bradford. Also taking part, as a representative of Mercedes-Benz UK, was Roger Brand.
Ex-fitness instructor Julian continues: “None of us had been able to do much training so we all found the race pretty shattering, especially on some of the hills.
“But the important thing was that we all got round and between us have raised about £850 in sponsorship pledges from friends, family, colleagues and customers, for this very good cause.”
Northside Truck and Van has also been backing Cancer Research UK by donating £50 for every Mercedes Vito Sport van sold. Over the last three months the dealership’s campaign has brought in more than £3,000 for the charity.
Some £650 of this total was raised during a single open weekend, staged at the end of April to mark the opening of Northside’s magnificent new, £4.6-million dealership in Doncaster.
