Sprinter proves a cut above for top barber

When an exclusive London barber that trims the hair of Royalty came to replace its ageing delivery vehicle, one van stood head and shoulders above the competition.

World famous Geo. F. Trumper chose a Mercedes Sprinter 315CDI from Andover dealership Pentagon.

One of the finest traditional gentlemen’s barbers, Geo. F. Trumper boasts an enviable client list that includes members of the Royal Family and leading figures in Government, industry and the entertainment world. It is also renowned for its range of fragrances and male grooming products.

The firm’s new Medium length, high-roofed Sprinter is resplendent in Trumper’s brown corporate livery.

It is now being used to transport colognes and shaving brushes up to four times a week, from the company’s depot in Collingbourne Ducis, Wiltshire, to its shops in Curzon Street, Mayfair, and Jermyn Street, St James, and a distribution centre in north London.

“We chose the Sprinter because it is clearly the best vehicle in its class,” says Leslie Johnson, General Manager of Geo. F. Trumper. “Mercedes-Benz enjoys a reputation for excellent reliability and the Sprinter offers a competitive load carrying capacity in terms of both weight and volume.

“It is also a very comfortable, well-appointed and safe vehicle – our drivers are really impressed with the quality of the drive. And, of course, the famous three-pointed star also complements our own premium brand image perfectly.”

Geo. F. Trumper was established in 1875 in Curzon Street, Mayfair, by George Trumper and has been honoured with the Royal Warrant of Queen Victoria and the five subsequent monarchs.

Its two shops continue the fine traditions, providing hair cuts, wet shaves with an open razor, and other grooming services to the discerning gentleman.

The company markets an extensive range of colognes, including its signature GFT fragrance, plus associated products and accessories.

Mr Johnson adds: “We are looking to expand our van operation further and intend to use more of our own vehicles, rather than third-party carriers, to make deliveries.”

The new-generation Mercedes Sprinter was launched last summer. Combining dynamic good looks, ‘bullet-proof’ build quality, comprehensive specification and ingenious technology, the range cost £1.25 billion (1.8 billion euro) and took a team of 400 design engineers five years to develop. The result is a triumph, a vehicle that sets new standards in terms of productivity, refinement and safety.

Highlights of the range include best-in-class side-loading door widths, outstanding ergonomics and comfort, a powerful and clean CDI diesel engine line-up topped by a storming 184hp 3.0-litre V6, and an advanced new version of the remarkable ESP® anti-skid system called Adaptive ESP®.
